Not all heroes wear capes and Botswana’s minister of Transport and communications; Kitso Mokaila is about about to be the people’s hero. Kitso Mokaila has promised to do something that no minister has said a word about; a problem that has caused a stir on social media. Just a few months back, mobile network operators in Botswana reduced their daily social internet packages from 500MB daily daily limit to 200MB – an issue that left many customers frustrated. Angry customers took their frustration to social media with a hope of getting positive feedback from the relevant authority but their efforts were in vain.

Below are some of the Posts from frustrated customers.

One angry Orange user wrote “I think these big corporations really get off on being nasty and greedy! I subscribed for the 1 month All my Friends package with Orange BW on the 4th at 8:55pm. So today I got cut off at around 7pm coz I had used up my daily 200mb- that’s cool, I understand. So I wait til 9pm so I can get reconnected coz I subscribed at 8:55pm so my new day should start at 8:55pm right? Wrong! According to Orange BW, their system is so accurate that it will cut me off 30 days later at the exact same time I subbed (8:55pm) along with any free minutes & SMSes I might have left, but when it comes to resetting my day, I gotta wait til after midnight- and even then, they’re not sure what time I’ll get connected after midnight. When it comes to cutting me off, their system is Albert Einstein accurate, but when it comes to resetting my day, that very system now transforms into Patrick Starfish! From rocket science to brain farts! If the system can cut me off at the exact time I subscribed, then surely it can reset my day at the exact same time too! Wakanda nonsense is this???”

Mokaila Steps Up

Today, 19 May 2018, Mokaila admitted that mobile broadband data costs in Botswana are very high. He said Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) is still working hard to get mobile data service providers to reduce data. Mokaila said his ministry has developed a Broadband strategy in an effort to address expensive but poor Internet services in the country.

“When it comes to cutting me off, their system is Albert Einstein accurate, but when it comes to resetting my day, that very system now transforms into Patrick Starfish”

Verily I tell you, should Mokaila stay true to his words, he will become the people’s new bae. He will receive all the praise from the young and the old and be guaranteed another chance in parliament after 2019 general elections.
