His honour, the Vice-president, Mr Slumber Tsogwane is the Vice-president of the Republic of Botswana with effect from Wednesday April 4, 2018. His Honour, the Vice-president also serves as the chairperson of Botswana Democratic Party (BDP)
Prior to this,he served as Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, the position he has held since November 2014 until March 31,2018.
The Ministry develops and monitors applicable policies and legislations aimed at transforming and strengthening Local Government and traditional institutions to fulfil their statutory obligations.
Under Honourable Tsogwane’s astute leadership, the Ministry developed and monitored systems and structures to enable integrated service delivery at Local Government level as well as provide requisite professional support and advice to Local Authorities and Tribal Authorities.
Vice-president Tsogwane, a University of Botswana alumnus, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities, obtained in 1985, and is reading for Master’s Degree in Development Studies through University of Botswana.
His Honour, the Vice President has a distinguished career in public service, having served as a teacher and Secondary School Deputy Head in the 1990s.
He has been Member of Parliament for Note to Constituency since 1999 and has served as chairperson of various Parliamentary Committees such as HIV/AIDS and Health as well as Labour between the year 2000 and 2002.
In addition, he has served as Assistant Minister of Finance and Development Planning in 2004-2009.
He has participated in several Election Observer Missions in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Mauritius, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
